#2 Dispatches from a place: Once upon a time, in Brunello Shire
Tales from my time as a winery worker in Tuscany
I can say that before spending months in Southern Tuscany, I had never really cared for wine as a piece of gastronomy.
Of course, I loved Champagne in every shape, colour and form for a long time already, but red wine, especially big reds full of tannins and structure…that was really not my place.
I had the luck to take a long internship at Banfi Vintners, in Montalcino. In the heart of Brunello, right where the grapes grow ripe and the sun shines high, I spent months with customers from Northern Europe, zooming around the cellars, the vineyards and the huge production plants.
There I met a lot of cool people, including Claudia, a former colleague who has recently started a joyful adventure in the form of a wine club for discovering and learning about Italian wines, called Callegari Wine.
I will tell you more about her project in a pinch.
This post belongs to the series #Dispatches from a place, where I tell you stories of gastronomic relevance from a personal angle.
Because I’m talking about actual places and actual food I’ve decided that these posts will be paywalled.
