#1 Dispatches from a place: Zürich
Come with me for a short escapade to the city of bankers, and let’s go eat sushi
I’m inaugurating a new section of this ever-growing space, to group all my musings that are more connected to places of food, than to gastronomy.
In this first dispatch, I tell you about my latest Zürich trip, with a rather meaningful lunch at Sushi Shin (Zinnengasse 7, Zürich).
We go and we think, as we eat. Because there’s a lot more to say than describing a menu, a space, and be vibing with the reviews.
This new insert will be sent to your inbox twice a month, and will be available via the Substack App, on alternate Mondays - to brighten up your week!
As I decided to do a personal exodus from Instagram, my day-to-day gastronomical endeavours were suddenly…homeless. But fret not! Here’s a bespoke space just for them.
But here’s where it’s tricky.
Because I’m talking about actual places and actual food I’ve decided that these posts will be paywalled.
Why?
An elementary set of reasons.
Firstly, this is the most “spendable” content: as we discussed already, media outlets are only interested in places (restaurants, bars) to fill their pages.
Secondly, more and more journalists are being replaced by low-wage writers or AI altogether - and I don’t intend to provide free materials for yet another editorial. Be it human or machine-powered.
Thirdly and lastly, because I think that whilst culture has to be free, not everything can be available at all times just like that.
Therefore this space that is substituting my Instagram is paywalled.
Behind the paywall, there’s going to be a lot of places I go, food that I eat and bottles that I drink. There’ll be people and places and emotions and feelings and culture, of course. Most importantly, there will be a strong focus on the philosophy of hospitality - the customer here is the centre.
If you feel inclined, you can support this publication and access all of this. Of course, I swap subscription for subscription :)
If not, you’ll still have access to all cultural musings.
Here we go!
